Support Us!
We are currently 100% volunteer driven, so even a $10.00 donation goes a long way.
Metanomy is a 501(c)(3) public charity.
Just wanted to do a quick update on the latest here at Metanomy. We have been working hard in the lab testing equipment for future integration into our brand spankin' new 16 foot mobile communications trailer - it will be called the Mobile Multi-purpose Network Node or M2N2. We thought about Urban Assault Vehicle but that was already taken. The goal is to provide a complete mobile communications suite that runs on solar/wind power. More details soon.
We also got a chance to get out and participate in the Be Local Northern Colorado, Be Local Day held at Colorado State University. The weather was great and we got to chat to a bunch of folks about tech. OK, a bunch of folks really means the EE and Comp Sci Geeks stopped by to have a look at some of our equipment we had on display. And as you can see from the picture a bit better signage might be in order.
Be Local Northern Colorado is a great organization and one that we support because we think it's a great way to promote community resilience. Here's their site: http://belocalnc.org/ and they are part of a larger movement called Business Alliance for Local Living Economies or BALLE http://www.livingeconomies.org/
Enjoy.

Checking in
Hi Coby,
Good to hear a bit more about some of your projects and glad Preston is having fun working with us.
I'm looking forward to our discussions sometime next week.
I just ordered a cradlepoint wireless router and will begin integration testing with it.
I'm also looking forward to learning more about the lithium system you're testing.
Best,
John
Where's the Van?
Did you watch Stripes when you were young?
Recently saw a 12vdc computer measuring 3" by 3" with WiFi and 3G comms. Also had VGA port, 2 USB ports, and mic and headset connections.
I was impressed. Guess it has an AMD chip inside and runs either a Windows or Ubuntu OS.
Am having great time with Sofcoast. Still with SAIC though and will be moving on to MDA.
Take care,
preston
Still In The Shop
Hi Preston,
Should have it out of the shop the end of this week. We opted for new axles to give us about 3-4" of extra ground clearance and a roof rack system to mount VSAT's etc. Otherwise we are still in the design phase as we try to squeeze every watt out of the data suite.
We have a small linux box in the lab that we are testing with apps like FrontlineSMS. It's very similar in performance to OLPC and runs at 5 watts. We'll post more info once we get our Falcom modem back from Afghanistan as we are having problems with our two Nokia phones with Ubuntu via USB, and hope the Falcom Samba 75 will be plug and play with this unit. I have also found a pretty incredible lithium battery pack that will power this unit for about 9 hours and can take a charge from a small solar array to extend that time.
I'll post some details on the battery pack first as it's one of our favorite finds so far this year.
R,
Coby
