Bixlar Test-bed for the Flying Thing

Finally I have the Bixlar plane from Metanomy! Thanks Team!

Now the challenge: Learning to fly it. It certainly is alittle harder than my usual gliders, which practically fly themselves. This has elaborate control surfaces, an actual radio control (I used to drag the Flying Thing and watch it glide with no need for control), :-) name it!

So first order of business is to use a flight simulator. So I've downloaded and installed Flightgear, as its open-source and has many planes and terrain from which to choose. Relatively lightwait for my laptop, and did I mention its free?

Second order of business, fly the actual plane! I don't want to damage it, I just got it! So I decided to suspend it from a tree and try flying it, and see how all goes...here are some videos and photos.... More soon, hope I will be flying by then.

If my flying is anything like my soccer playing, Houston, we have a problem!!

Great Gary

Thanks for the tips Gary. Sorry only just saw your reply. Very interesting to read your comments, especially specific to my region and terrain! I will make updates on the site of my progress!!

Asante Sana!

Regards,

Moses

Looking good

Thats very maridadi Moses, don't forget you are hot and high there so don't load it as much as people do at sea level.

Reduce the payload by 1/3rd

A really nice thing to do might be to go up into Ngongs and try slope soaring first. Just don't go to the rift as the walk to the bottom will be extreme if you have to make it! Because you are using slope lift and not the motor you can fly for longer as well. Probably all day if the wind is right so lots of practice.

Have a look on the web.

All the best UAS pilots are slope soarers ;-)

I look forward to following your progress.
