Anatomy of a Solar Powered Wireless Node

We are out doing a demo for the Ft Collins Solar Tour, so I am writing this from the M2N2 in between visitors. I have enjoyed showing off our tech and ideas to the folks stopping by the demo. It has been a bit slow, so thought I would put up more details on our solar powered wireless nodes.

There's nothing fancy here. Just ideas being well built using some commercial off the shelf parts, and some help from my Dad who has more time building stuff than most people. We managed to build two of these in a couple days - The second one took half the time of the first once we had worked through the details of our first prototype.

The attached image tells most of the story. What you can not see here is they break down into three pieces for transport or five pieces for tight storage. There's also an on/off switch; charge/accessory DC power port; and LAN connection for remote sensors and troubleshooting the wireless.

Enjoy!
